Sanitization of cabinets and surfaces

In all productive and non-production activities, a fundamental phase of the work concerns the cleaning and sanitization of equipment and work surfaces.

For this reason it is important to know exactly how to properly clean your stainless steel cabinets. So that the product is not damaged and is completely hygienic and safe for operators and customers.

The sanitization of processes and equipment, to be achieved effectively, consists of two phases:

  1. Cleaning
  2. Disinfection

Both must be performed with the right tools and in the appropriate way, let’s see together

Surface cleaning

Detergence is the first cleaning phase, after which the treated surface must appear free of visible dirt or residues of substances used. In order to carry out a deep and effective cleansing, it is necessary to choose the most suitable detergent, based on a few factors:

  • water hardness
  • application procedure
  • material to clean
  • quantity and type of dirt to be removed

Furthermore, a clean surface after cleaning must be odorless and non-greasy. To check with certainty a simple but effective technique consists in swiping a white handkerchief on the surface, to see if it blackens.

Another effective method is to pour water and check that it flows evenly, without forming droplets. This ensures that there are no greasy residues..

Disinfection

After carrying out a deep cleaning of the surfaces, in order to obtain a complete cleaning and sanitization, it is necessary to disinfect.

The goal of this procedure is the destruction of pathogenic bacteria that can be deposited on work surfaces and equipment. Here too, as for detergency, there are various methods with which this objective can be achieved:

  • heat
  • ionizing radiation and UV
  • chlorine-derived chemicals

There is also another disinfection method, particularly suitable for open surfaces, called OPC (Open Plant Cleaning). Our cabinets fall into this type of surfaces and can therefore be disinfected in this way.

OPC disinfection includes mobile or fixed pressure systems, which exploit contact with the surface to eliminate pathogens. When using this method, resistance to disinfectants may arise, mainly due to their incorrect concentration. Therefore, you should always be careful when choosing them.

Cleaning of stainless steel cabinets

We have seen in general what we mean by surface sanitization and how to achieve it. Now let’s talk specifically about how to treat stainless steel cabinets. Although this material is one of the best in terms of corrosion resistance, we must always pay attention to using nonabrasive cloths and products to clean the cabinets.

An effective choice of detergent can be a solution of water and ethyl alcohol: the latter is highly degreasing and performs an antibacterial and disinfectant action on surfaces. A complete cleaning is obtained only by treating every part of the surfaces of the locker, inside and outside.

Just as important as cleaning and disinfection is the phase of drying and aerating the surfaces of the cabinets. A humid and closed environment is the perfect place for the growth of very dangerous germs and bacteria. Dry the surfaces thoroughly and leave them in a dry and ventilated environment before making them available for use again.
