STAINLESS STEEL: A SUSTAINABLE AND RECYCLABLE MATERIAL
Environmental awareness and sustainability are key considerations for companies and their customers.
Establishing correct environmental policies and saving non-renewable resources are important principles, which can be pursued by choosing the correct materials: Stainless steel is a fantastically green choice because it is 100 percent recyclable.
How green is stainless steel?
This raw material has unique characteristics, which make it not only highly hygienic but also extremely ecological. First of all, stainless steel is completely recyclable: after scrapping, it can be reused in many other contexts, maintaining its qualities.
In addition, both during its life (when it is used) and during scrapping and recovery, stainless steel does not emit harmful substances. Even when it deteriorates following strong stress, the material does not release any dangerous residue for the environment and our health.
Another proof of its eco-sustainability lies in the fact that the production and manufacturing processes require less energy expenditure than the processing of other metals. Making pieces and sheets of stainless steel therefore has a reduced environmental impact, an extremely important aspect.
Moreover, stainless steel does not require further coating or painting: substances that are not easily disposed of and may even produce toxic fumes if burned.
IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAW
Moreover, from a legal point of view, choosing stainless steels proves to be the best choice. Stainless steel fully complies with the 2002/95/EC regulation of 27 January 2003 regarding the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS). This directive prohibited the use of materials containing certain substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium…
Stainless steel does not contain any of these substances and is therefore one of the perfectly valid raw materials. An eco-sustainable choice, compliant with the law.
At Facilitas we want to constantly invest in materials and production processes, so as to also invest in the health of our ecosystem. An ecologically sustainable company philosophy is above all a duty and we are committed to fulfilling it.
